Ralph Waldo Emerson also said, "Once you make a decision, the

couldn't hurt to "be water, my friend!"

Prepping quotes...
Let's begin the prepping and survival quotes with someone who
isn't a survivalist because let's get real. As Mae West once said,
"You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”

That's essentially why we're all preppers. We want to do things
right. We prepare! In the book
The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne, a
popular quote was from Napoleon Hill, namely
“Whatever the
mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
That's
a good quote for succeeding in life when times are good, but
think of it also when you're trying to survive! You must always
have hope. Your life hinges on hope, but also in how you handle
whatever comes your way in live.

Below are the top prepping and survival quotes and who said
them. Let them be your inspiration!

Prepper Quotes
Of all the quotes on prepping and survival there are three
favorites in prepper circles:

  • "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."
Benjamin Franklin. With nine simple words, Ben has
    captured the premise of prepping.

  • Be prepared, not scared. Anonymous.

  • “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it
can achieve.”  — Napoleon Hill. This quote was popularized
by Rhonda Byrne in her book, The Secret, pictured right, and
can have many applications for preppers. One of the survival
techniques is to maintain hope and a clear mind to survive.
Hope can keep you alive, which is why it's part of another
    popular prepper quote...

  • "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst." This quote
is actually an idiom for which several people have tried to
take credit as a quote. Many even credit the bible, but the
closest reference there comes in Proverbs 21:31, which
reads, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but
    safety is of the LORD.”

  • “Chance favors the prepared mind.  Louis Pasteur

  • "Chop your own wood and it will warm you twice.
Henry Ford.  It's a nice thing to remember as you prepare
to season your wood. Get to it ~ chop, chop!

  • "Be Prepared." This quotation comes from the Boy Scouts
and it's also used extensively by the Girl Scouts and
    preppers for obvious reason.

  • "Control the food supply and you control the people."
~ Henry Kissinger. That's a startling quote that should
motivate any prepper to build a pantry worthy of
    withstanding control.

  • "Extinction is the rule. Survival is the exception."Carl
Sagan.  This American author and astronomer was also an
astrophysicist and astrobiologist who perhaps was not a
prepper, but who certainly understood the consequences of
mankind when he said: "We’ve arranged a civilization in
which most crucial elements profoundly depend on
science and technology.” This is exactly what preppers fear
    with an Electromagnetic pulse.

  • "Nothing is impossible. The word itself says, 'I'm
Possible!'" ~ Audrey Hepburn. Another quote on prepping
and survival that isn't from a survivalist, but in crisis this
    really is something to remember.

  • "It wasn't raining when Noah Built the Ark."Howard
Ruff. This financial advisor wrote an investment newsletter
entitled "Ruff Times." He must have been a prepper as he
wrote "How to Prosper During the Coming Bad Years in the
21st Century," This personal inflation-fighter's handbook had
a few versions. Survive and Win in the Inflationary Eighties,
    and other books.

  • "Make do or do without." Another idiom that came about
as a result of the Great Depression when people made do
with what little they had out of necessity. The full quote,
    pictured right, is actually longer.

  • "It is not the strongest of the species that survive, not
the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change."
Charles Darwin. This is his actual quote, though he is often
quoted with the "survival of the fittest." Over the years
we've shortened Darwin's original meaning. It was an
unknown Leon C. Megginson who oddly gets credit for this
quote. Little is known about the business professor of
Louisiana State University who's credited with this quote
from a speech in 1963. He obviously borrowed from Charles
    Darwin.

  • "The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining."
~ John F. Kennedy. If this survival quote seems familiar,
perhaps it is! Likely President Kennedy borrowed from a
proverb which says, "Dig the well before you are thirsty."

  • "Grow food, not lawns." — Anonymous.

  • "The only easy day was yesterday." United States Navy
    Seals.

  • "Life has many ways of testing a person's will, either by
having NOTHING happen at all, or by having
EVERYTHING happen all at once." ~ Paulo Coelho, author
of The Alchemist, pictured immediate right. The book is a
classic read about following your dreams and recognizing
opportunity as well as learning to read the omens along the
    same path.

  • "Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness."
—Chinese Proverb. Wisdom of the ancients never gets old.

  • "It's not whether you get knocked down — it's whether
you get get up." — Vince Lombardi, National Football
League executive, football coach and football player

  • "The line between life or death is determined by what
we are willing to do." Bear Grylls. The British explorer
has another good one: "Survival can be summed up in
    three words: 'NEVER GIVE UP!'"

  • "Have more than you show. Speak less than you know."
That's a rather obscure prepping and survival quote from
Benjamin Franklin. A quote you may be more familiar with
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Incidentally he's filled with  more notable quotables, like
this one on being thrifty: "A penny saved is a penny
earned." He must have had money on his mind quite a bit
when he said this one. "Beware of little expenses: a small
leak will sink a great ship." Yes, in case there was any
doubt: Benjamin Franklin was a prepper when he also said
this: "Make yourself a sheep and the wolves will eat you."

  • Fear not the mat who has practiced 10,000 kicks once,
but fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000
times. — Bruce Lee. This is a powerful message of
    preparation.

  • "Be Water My Friend." Bruce Lee. It's not the typical
prepping quote, but when you listen to the full context of
    the quote you will understand:
